ORANG ASLI


Orang Asli is a Malay-generic word used officially in Malaysia to refer to the existence of an original person occupying Tanah Melayu Tanah Melayu since its existence. Officially, there are at least 18 ethnic Aboriginal peoples in the Semenanjung Malaysia, they are categorized into three main groups following their distinctive speech and customs between one another. Among them are the northern (northern part of the Semenanjung) senoi (central part of the Semenanjung) and proto-malaya (southern part of the Semenanjung)


COSTUMS AND BELIEFS

Indegenous people inherit a wealthy and unbelievable belief in taboo. They stick to the belief
of animism and are protected by the spirit of nature and the plans. They also belief in good and evil sprits. Every thing has a sprits and can bring harm or good. If they experience bad luck, Tok Halak will act to evict evil sprit that bring bad luck. The evil sprit is the dead soul of a dead soul. Indigenous people also believe that bad elements will cause disasters such as starvation, disease, floods and accidents.

CELEBRATION

The Orang Asli festival - according to the Jakun tribe, is known as the 'Tahon Baro' celebration while in the Semaiese language 'Jis Pai' or 'Taut Pai', Findings - 'Year Bahauk', Semelai - 'Yearlong', Mahmeri - 'Tawun Empai' and Temiar - 'Is Pai'.


CLOTHES

Orang Asli people who live mostly in jungles in Malaysia, wear natural made-up clothing such as tree bark and grass skirts. The jewelry they wear include the headbands made of leaves with various patterns.

FOOD

The shoots of the nails or the sprout are seliley by indigenous people Temuan, mixed with cassava, in cooked curry. Usually eaten with rice or salted fish and sambal.
